The DNR will post Rice Lake in Stearns County with possible zebra mussels because we are downstream from Grove Lake which has been listed as a zebra mussel waterbody (Grove Lake in Pope County). The signage has recently been updated.
Because the flow in the North Fork Crow River is relatively high, veligers (zebra mussel larvae) will eventually move downstream. Veligers are microscopic free living larvae that form shells.
Please keep an eye out for zebra mussels attaching to your water equipment (docks, Lifts, etc.) as you pull them out of the water this fall and report any zebra mussels identified to the RLA Board.
